Locally Made Horror-Comedy ‘New Fears Eve’ Returns for a Free Outdoor Screening in Owensboro

The award-winning horror-comedy film New Fears Eve, created entirely in Owensboro, Kentucky, is returning home for a special free outdoor screening this Friday. The event will take place at The Lot Food Truck Park & Events Center located at 900 East 4th Street, starting at 7 p.m. as part of the Friday with the Arts series.
Produced by Owensboro filmmakers P.J. Starks and Eric Huskisson under their company Blood Moon Pictures, the movie was filmed entirely in Owensboro and features a mix of local talent and familiar landmarks. Shooting locations include Kentucky Wesleyan College, Owensboro Community & Technical College, The Pub on Second, and even the Owensboro Bridge. Starks and Huskisson said their goal was to highlight what their hometown has to offer and to prove that independent filmmaking can thrive outside of Hollywood.
The film has gained significant momentum over the past year, becoming a festival favorite both across the United States and internationally. It has collected multiple awards for Best Horror Comedy and Best Ensemble Cast, and actor Dave Sheridan—known from the hit Scary Movie series—won Best Supporting Performance for his role in this project.
Jeffrey Reddick, the creator of the Final Destination franchise, also contributed as both a producer and actor in New Fears Eve, bringing additional star power and credibility to the independent feature. Alongside Sheridan and Reddick, the cast includes Felissa Rose, Hannah Fierman, Lily-Claire Harvey, Jay Woolston, Alyssa Rhoads, Roni Jonah, and Jesse McDonald, who portrays the chilling antagonist known as The Doctor.
The story follows three best friends reluctantly preparing for their company’s New Year’s Eve party, unaware that a psychotic killer nicknamed The Doctor is on the loose, turning their celebration into a deadly night. Reports from genre outlets like Bloody Disgusting reveal that the film’s body count surpasses 35 victims, making it a treat for horror fans who enjoy creative slasher chaos mixed with sharp comedy.
New Fears Eve premiered at the New York City Horror Film Festival in late 2024 and has since been showcased at numerous film festivals nationwide, including the Chicago Horror Film Festival, where it earned Best Horror Comedy, and A Night of Horror International Film Festival, which recognized it with additional honors. The movie has also received nominations at the Victory International Film Festival in Indiana and continues to make waves on the indie horror circuit.
The upcoming outdoor screening promises to be a community celebration, combining local arts, food, and film. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy food trucks and art booths before the screening begins. Starks hinted that the Blood Moon Pictures team has “major news brewing behind the scenes”, suggesting exciting announcements may soon follow the event.
For locals and horror fans alike, this is a final chance to experience what many have dubbed “Owensboro’s horror film”—a hometown project that has proven small-town creativity can earn national acclaim.
