Comedian and television personality Nikki Glaser is making her big-screen leap with an untitled modern romantic comedy in development at Universal Pictures. The project brings together Glaser and legendary comedy filmmaker Judd Apatow, marking a fresh collaboration between two heavyweights in comedy.

According to multiple reports, Glaser will star in, co-write, and produce the film, teaming up with writer Sean O’Connor, her longtime creative partner. The duo previously worked together on the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, where Glaser made history as the first solo female host of the show. The two are now channeling that same chemistry into a feature-length romantic comedy that’s being described as “modern” and “edgy.”

Apatow will produce the film alongside Glaser through his Apatow Productions banner, continuing his long-running relationship with Universal. His producing partner Josh Church is also on board. Apatow’s connection with Universal goes back nearly two decades, beginning with his 2005 directorial debut, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, and continuing through some of the studio’s most iconic comedies, including Knocked Up, Funny People, This Is 40, Trainwreck, and The King of Staten Island.

Beyond his directorial work, Apatow has also been behind the scenes as a producer on fan-favorite hits like Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek, Bridesmaids, The Five-Year Engagement, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, and Bros. His long-standing partnership with Universal has helped define the studio’s comedy identity, and this new project signals that the creative partnership is still going strong.

As for Glaser, this film represents a major career milestone. Known for her sharp wit and fearless humor, she has built a diverse resume across stand-up, television, and hosting. Aside from her Golden Globes debut earlier this year, Glaser has appeared in shows like Inside Amy Schumer, A.P. Bio, Alone Together, and her own series, Not Safe with Nikki Glaser. She’s also become a fixture in Comedy Central Roasts, where her cutting one-liners at the expense of Bruce Willis, Tom Brady, and Alec Baldwin made her a standout performer.

Next up, Glaser is set to host Saturday Night Live, further cementing her place among comedy’s most visible and versatile talents. With this upcoming film, she’s expanding her creative range even more — stepping into a leading film role while also shaping the story from behind the scenes.

The project is still in early development, with no official title, plot details, or release date yet announced. It’s also unclear whether Judd Apatow will direct or remain in a producing role. What’s confirmed is that the film will be overseen by Erik Baiers, Universal’s Senior Executive Vice President of Production Development.

For representation, Glaser is with UTA, Brillstein, ID PR, and Ginsburg Daniels Kallis. Apatow is represented by WME, Mosaic, ID PR, and Ziffren Brittenham LLP, while O’Connor is represented by CAA, Mosaic, and Felker Toczek Suddleson McGinnis Ryan.

This collaboration is generating plenty of excitement — after all, it’s not every day that one of comedy’s most outspoken performers teams up with one of Hollywood’s most successful comedy filmmakers. Expect updates as the project moves further into production.
