Holmes Joins the Star-Studded Comedy Feature Trash Mountain
The upcoming comedy feature Trash Mountain is expanding its cast, and the latest addition is actor and comedian Holmes, known for their work in Hacks, Overcompensating, and Welcome to Flatch. The film is currently in production in Chicago and continues to attract notable talent, adding more excitement to an already promising lineup.
Trash Mountain is written by Caleb Hearon and Ruby Caster, with direction by Kris Rey, best known for films like I Used to Go Here. You can learn more about Rey’s work on her IMDb page. The story centers on Gavin, a 27-year-old gay man living in Chicago, played by Hearon. Gavin’s life is moving along smoothly until the unexpected death of his father forces him to return to his rural Missouri hometown.
Once back home, Gavin must confront not only his grief but also complicated family dynamics—particularly with his half-sister Abbi, played by Zooey Deschanel. The narrative focuses on their shared emotional journey as they deal with the remnants of the past and their father’s troubled legacy. Alongside Hearon and Deschanel, previously announced cast members include Jacki Weaver, Kyle Marvin, and Jaboukie Young-White, rounding out an ensemble that hints at both heartfelt and comedic performances.
On the production side, the film brings together an impressive group of industry names. Lilly Wachowski—known for iconic works like The Matrix and Cloud Atlas—serves as executive producer, helping to shape the project’s creative direction. Wachowski’s involvement adds weight to the film’s exploration of identity, family, and personal history. Additional executive producers include Julie Lebedev and Eddie Vaisman of Sight Unseen, as well as Carrie Holt De Lama, Zachary Spicer, Chris Cafero for Five Sticks Productions, and Scott Goldstein for Streeterville Productions.
Producing the film is Colin Trevorrow under his Metronome banner, which recently released the comedy Deep Cover. More about Metronome’s work can be found on their official site. Producer Rebecca Linfoot is overseeing the project on Metronome’s behalf, ensuring that the film progresses smoothly while maintaining its creative vision.
As for Holmes, this new role adds to an already notable list of credits. They are widely recognized for their lead role in A24/Amazon’s Overcompensating, created by Benito Skinner; their work in Paul Feig’s Fox comedy Welcome to Flatch; and their recurring role in season 4 of the award-winning HBO Max series Hacks. Holmes also appears in Feig’s films Jackpot! and Another Simple Favor. In addition to acting, they have been active in development, having sold the pilot Stuck, co-created with Caleb Hearon, to Hulu. Holmes is represented by Artists First, CAA, and Felker Toczek Suddleson.
Trash Mountain continues to build momentum as production moves forward, and with the combination of a strong cast, experienced creative team, and emotionally grounded premise, the film is shaping up to be one of the standout comedy projects currently in the works.
