Fox is gearing up for a brand-new one-hour comedy-drama called Best Medicine, an American adaptation of the hit British series Doc Martin. The show stars Josh Charles, best known for his roles in The Good Wife and The Handmaid’s Tale, and it’s already drawing buzz for its mix of humor, heart, and small-town charm — all filmed right here in New York’s Hudson Valley.

In Best Medicine, Charles takes on the role of Dr. Martin Best, a brilliant Boston surgeon whose career takes a dramatic turn after he relocates to a quaint East Coast fishing village where he spent summers as a child. Despite his unmatched medical skills, Martin’s blunt and borderline rude bedside manner doesn’t exactly win over the locals. Beneath his cold, clinical demeanor lies something deeper — a debilitating new phobia and psychological struggles that prevent him from forming real emotional connections.

The series is being developed by Liz Tuccillo, known for her work on Sex and the City and Divorce, and produced by Propagate Content in partnership with Fox Entertainment. Executive producers include Ben Silverman, Rodney Ferrell, Mark Crowdy, and Philippa Braithwaite, who were all involved in the original Doc Martin. The show is part of Fox’s 2025–26 broadcast lineup and is scheduled to premiere in January 2026, although an exact date hasn’t been confirmed yet.

The cast is stacked with familiar faces. Alongside Josh Charles, viewers will see Abigail Spencer (Timeless, Mad Men) as Louisa Glasson, Annie Potts (Young Sheldon) as Aunt Joan, and Josh Segarra (The Other Two, She-Hulk) as Sheriff Mark Mylow. In a fun crossover for fans of the original, Martin Clunes, the UK’s original Doc Martin, will guest star as Martin Best’s father.

Filming for Best Medicine has been taking place across the Hudson Valley, including Cornwall-on-Hudson, New Hamburg, and Wappinger Falls. Locals have spotted production crews around New Hamburg Yacht Club and Choice Stages Management in Newburgh, both of which are believed to appear in the series. The Hudson Valley’s blend of coastal scenery, historic charm, and small-town character makes it the perfect backdrop for the show’s fictional seaside village.

Fox released the first trailer for Best Medicine in November 2025, offering a glimpse of Josh Charles in action and some recognizable Hudson Valley landmarks. The teaser highlights both the show’s offbeat humor and its emotional core — promising something that’s part character-driven comedy and part heartfelt drama. You can catch the official trailer now on YouTube and Fox’s official platforms.

Beyond its storytelling, Best Medicine adds to the Hudson Valley’s growing reputation as a major filming destination. In recent years, productions like Severance (Apple TV+), The Gilded Age (HBO), Poker Face (Peacock), and Life & Beth (Hulu) have all shot scenes in the area. The region’s mix of natural beauty, historic architecture, and accessibility from New York City has made it increasingly attractive for major studios.

With a strong creative team, a talented cast, and the scenic Hudson Valley as its backdrop, Best Medicine looks ready to offer the perfect blend of humor, heart, and hometown flair when it debuts on Fox in January 2026. Keep an eye out for more updates as the premiere date approaches — and maybe even for a film crew the next time you’re driving through the Valley.
