Jake Ryan, Dagmara Dominczyk & Kelsey Asbille Lead Harris Gurny’s Debut Romantic Comedy ‘Adulting’

The indie romantic comedy ‘Adulting’ has officially wrapped filming in New York, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Harris Gurny. The movie stars Jake Ryan, Dagmara Dominczyk, and Kelsey Asbille in leading roles and promises a refreshing twist on the modern coming-of-age romance.

Written and directed by Harris Gurny, Adulting follows a floundering postgrad whose close, almost codependent relationship with his mother faces an unexpected challenge when he falls for her 30-year-old girlfriend. The film blends humor, emotion, and a dose of chaos as it explores unconventional love, family dynamics, and the struggle of figuring out life after graduation.

The project is produced by Lucas Ford, Neo Li, and Joey LePage under Ford Films, in association with Wild Cocoon. David Midgley serves as executive producer, while Olivia Mastrangelo and Irina Slepneva are credited as co-producers. Casting was handled by Matthew Glasner. The supporting cast includes Diego Torrado, Grace Brennan, Anne Lois Bullington, and Simon Longnight, rounding out an ensemble that hints at both comedy and heartfelt realism.

Before stepping behind the camera, Gurny built his reputation as a producer, contributing to films such as Coup! and The God Committee, both of which screened at major festivals like Venice, Tribeca, and SXSW. His experience in the independent film circuit suggests Adulting could follow a similar festival path before reaching broader audiences.

Leading man Jake Ryan is well known for his collaborations with Wes Anderson, having appeared in Asteroid City, Moonrise Kingdom, and Isle of Dogs, as well as a Sony Xperia stop-motion commercial directed by Anderson himself. His film credits also include Eighth Grade, Uncut Gems, and Inside Llewyn Davis. On television, Ryan has appeared in Splitting Up Together, The Comedians alongside Billy Crystal, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and most recently Chad for TBS/Roku. He is represented by Gersh and Thruline Entertainment.

Dagmara Dominczyk, currently seen opposite Jason Bateman and Jude Law in Netflix’s Black Rabbit, adds star power and dramatic depth to the film. She recently appeared in the indie Miller’s Girl with Martin Freeman and Jenna Ortega, and in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla opposite Jacob Elordi and *Cailee Spaeny. Known for her standout performances in Succession and We Own This City, she is represented by Innovative Artists and Amplified.

Kelsey Asbille, best recognized for her role as Monica Dutton in Taylor Sheridan’s hit series Yellowstone, also joins the cast. Sheridan previously directed her in Wind River, which inspired him to write her Yellowstone role specifically. Asbille recently starred in Netflix’s horror-thriller ‘Don’t Move’ opposite Finn Wittrock, which topped the streamer’s film charts for two weeks. She will next appear in the psychological thriller ‘The Technique’, sharing the screen with Emma Roberts, Ben Platt, Laura Harrier, and Nicholas Alexander Chavez. She is represented by CAA, Entertainment 360, and attorney Huy Nguyen.

While no release date or distribution details have been announced yet, Adulting brings together a talented cast, a first-time director with festival pedigree, and an intriguing concept that mixes awkward romance with family drama — all set against the vibrant backdrop of New York.
