Meghan Markle Makes Her Acting Comeback in Upcoming Comedy Close Personal Friends
After nearly eight years away from Hollywood, Meghan Markle is officially returning to acting with a role in the upcoming comedy Close Personal Friends. The news has caught the attention of fans and industry watchers alike, as this marks Meghan’s first on-screen appearance since leaving Suits in 2017 following her engagement to Prince Harry.
According to People, the Duchess of Sussex, now 44, was recently spotted on set in Pasadena, California, looking relaxed and cheerful while greeting cast and crew members. Sources described her as “sweet and down-to-earth,” adding that she “introduced herself to everyone” and “seemed very happy to be back.”
The film, Close Personal Friends, is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios and directed by Jason Orley, best known for his work on I Want You Back. The screenplay is written by Isaac Aptaker, and the movie boasts an impressive ensemble cast that includes Brie Larson, Lily Collins, Jack Quaid, and Henry Golding.
As per The Telegraph India, the story revolves around a regular couple who befriend a famous pair during a trip to Santa Barbara, leading to plenty of awkward and comedic moments. Meghan is set to play herself in the film — a cameo role that’s reportedly small but symbolic of her return to the screen.
A studio insider told The Sun that Meghan’s involvement is meant to be “a gentle way of putting her toe back in the water.” The source added, “She has been swamped with offers but this one felt right. It’s a massive moment for her and signifies a return to doing what she truly loves.” Everyone on set has reportedly been sworn to secrecy about her role, further fueling the anticipation.
Production for Close Personal Friends began in London and Los Angeles in late September 2025, with filming continuing into November. Meghan’s cameo scenes were filmed earlier this week, around November 5, 2025, as confirmed by multiple outlets including Town & Country.
While Meghan hasn’t publicly commented on her return to acting, those close to her say Prince Harry is fully supportive of the decision. “Harry just wants Meghan to do whatever brings her joy,” one source told InStyle.
Before this, Meghan made her way back to the small screen through her Netflix lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, which debuted in March 2025 and has already run for two seasons. The Duchess revealed at the Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit on October 14 that there’s no immediate plan for a third season, though a holiday special is scheduled to drop in November 2025.
Reflecting on her production work, Meghan said, “It’s a year of learns. Eight episodes for two seasons—it’s a lot of work. I remember what goes into a production from my Suits days.” She added that she’s exploring new ways to connect with audiences, experimenting with shorter-form content like two-minute recipe clips.
For now, fans are thrilled to see Meghan dipping her toes back into acting. With a high-profile cast and the intriguing premise of Close Personal Friends, her cameo is already shaping up to be one of the most talked-about celebrity moments of 2025.
