Charlie Hall Is Developing New Hulu Comedy C-League With Alec Berg and Amy Solomon

Actor and writer Charlie Hall is developing a new half-hour comedy series titled C-League alongside acclaimed producers Alec Berg and Amy Solomon, with the project currently set up at Hulu and produced by 20th Television. The studio is backing the series under Berg and Solomon’s overall deal, which already includes multiple ongoing comedy developments.

C-League centers on five best friends in their late 20s who compete in a men’s adult recreational basketball league and chase the dream of finally winning their league’s championship. The concept blends sports-driven humor with grounded themes as the friends try to improve their dismal 26% three-point shooting and avoid being completely winded by halftime.

The series aims to explore topics like male loneliness, the struggles of modern masculinity, and the complexities of navigating friendships as adulthood fully sets in. While the setup is lighthearted, the creative team wants to examine the emotional side of male bonding through the lens of a community basketball league.

Hall is attached as an executive producer alongside Berg and Solomon, marking another step in his expanding career in both writing and acting. His recent work includes wrapping a series-regular role in the upcoming Apple TV+ drama Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, where he stars opposite Tatiana Maslany.

He also appeared in the latest season of Ryan Murphy’s Netflix anthology Monster, featured in the storyline involving suspected serial killer Ed Gein, where he acted alongside Charlie Hunnam. Hall additionally co-wrote and performed in Sorry Charlie, a project he developed from his own web series in partnership with Sony Television and Amazon Freevee.

Before entering the entertainment industry, Hall played Division I basketball at Northwestern University, giving him firsthand experience with the sport featured at the heart of C-League. He is currently represented by CAA and Untitled Entertainment, both prominent agencies in the industry.

Alec Berg and Amy Solomon bring a strong comedy pedigree to the project, having produced the award-winning HBO dark comedy Barry, which Berg co-created with Bill Hader. They also worked together on HBO’s Silicon Valley, where Berg served as showrunner, and Berg’s extensive credits include roles as writer, director, and executive producer on Curb Your Enthusiasm and Seinfeld.

Their producing partnership continues beyond C-League, as they are developing another half-hour Hulu comedy with 20th Television, this one based on the life of comedian Jake Shane, best known for the podcast Therapuss. Berg is represented by UTA and Hansen Jacobson Teller, while Solomon is represented by UTA.

Readers can follow Hulu’s lineup of upcoming projects on the official Hulu website and learn more about 20th Television’s production slate via Disney Television Studios. Information about Charlie Hall’s earlier appearances can also be found on Netflix’s Monster anthology page and details about Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed will be available through Apple TV+ once the series nears release.
