Filmmakers Curry Barker and Cooper Tomlinson Release New YouTube Comedy Fly Me to the Earth
Creators Curry Barker and Cooper Tomlinson, known for their microbudget slasher hit Milk & Serial, are releasing their newest comedy project Fly Me to the Earth on their That’s a Bad Idea YouTube channel. The duo previously gained major attention when Milk & Serial, a 62-minute horror feature made for just $800, racked up 2.1 million views online.
Barker’s momentum accelerated further after his horror film Obsession sold for $14 million to Focus Features in October following its debut at the Toronto Film Festival. This sale marked a major leap in his career and brought significant industry attention to the projects he and Tomlinson produce together.
Their latest release, Fly Me to the Earth, is coproduced by Barker and Tomlinson and directed by Chris Reinacher, who also co-wrote the film. Reinacher is recognized for his comedic work, including roles on shows like Superstore and various digital productions that showcase his comedy background.
The filmmakers describe the short as leaning into a “heightened comedic universe,” and they’ve assembled an ensemble cast filled with well-known comedy performers. The lineup includes Patrick Warburton from Family Guy, Alexis Knapp from Pitch Perfect, Efren Ramirez from Napoleon Dynamite, Ryan O’Flanagan from American Vandal, Chris Reinacher himself, and Will Angus of Friday Beers.
Produced under Silver Sail Entertainment, the film follows a group of friends convinced that their best chance at rebooting their lives lies beyond Earth. According to the official synopsis, they scrape together all their savings to buy a one-way ticket to lunar living, only to have their cosmic ambitions collide with the very real complications that follow them from home.
Actor and producer Tanner Beard, known for Landman, encourages viewers to “buckle up,” calling the short a “side-splitting story” packed with familiar faces and a chaotic mission to create a better life on the Moon. Beard also hints at numerous cameos from recognizable comedy talent, a detail that positions the project as a collaboration-heavy showcase of the creators’ network.
Producers Tomik Mansoori and Haley Johnson are also attached to the project, rounding out a team that blends independent filmmaking energy with actors and producers from varied corners of the comedy and entertainment world. Their involvement further supports the film’s emphasis on grassroots creativity paired with professional comedic experience.
For those who want to check out the final project directly, Fly Me to the Earth premieres exclusively on the That’s a Bad Idea YouTube channel. Viewers can watch it at 4 p.m. PT on Friday by visiting the channel here:
