Netflix has officially lifted the curtain on Living the Dream, a new eight-episode adult animated workplace comedy created by George Gendi, the BAFTA-nominated mind behind The Amazing World of Gumball and Apple & Onion. Produced by Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe, the series brings a sharp and funny look at modern working life, all set in London and centered around two best friends who can’t seem to catch a break.

At the heart of the show are Des and Ray, described as “a couple of really cool guys from London who should have made it big by now but haven’t but still could.” Instead of thriving, they find themselves stuck at a “we’re-gonna-save-the-planet” style company called Ecofood, where they handle social media work for very little pay. Their day-to-day frustrations fuel the show’s comedy as they navigate awkward workplace romances, HR mishaps, baffling directives from the L.A. office, and even disapproval from Ray’s dad. As the synopsis puts it, things “could be worse, but could be much, much better.”

The series brings together an impressive cast. Alongside Gendi and Javone Prince, who voice Des and Ray, the lineup includes Tom Stourton, Ellie White, Chris Diamantopoulos, Stavros Halkias, Julia Davis (known for Gavin & Stacey), and Ambika Mod, the breakout star of One Day. Each actor adds a mix of British and international comedic energy, giving the show a distinctive voice blend suited to its London setting.

Behind the scenes, Living the Dream has a notable team of executive producers, including Sam Register, known for Looney Tunes Cartoons and Teen Titans Go!, as well as Sarah Fell and Daniel Lennard, who previously worked on The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball and The Heroic Quest of the Valiant Prince Ivandoe. Animation work is handled by Boulder Media, the well-established Irish studio that has contributed to several major animated productions.

The writing team extends beyond Gendi and includes Phoebe Walsh, Ellie White, Joe Parnham, and Joe Markham, adding multiple comedic perspectives to the show’s tone and direction. Given the blend of writers with backgrounds in British comedy and animated storytelling, the series is shaping up to deliver a grounded yet playful take on workplace culture.

Netflix introduced Living the Dream during the State of the Animation Nation panel at the Manchester Animation Festival, where the first look was presented to audiences. This aligns with Netflix’s push to expand its portfolio of adult animated series, a category that has been growing steadily on the platform. For context on Netflix’s adult animation lineup, you can check out its broader animation slate on the official Netflix animation page.

While the announcement revealed extensive details about the cast, production, premise, and creative team, Netflix has not yet confirmed a release date for the show. Episode length, global rollout plans, and distribution details also remain undisclosed for now.

Still, with its London setting, relatable workplace themes, and a creative team filled with seasoned animation pros, Living the Dream stands out as a fresh addition to Netflix’s growing adult animation catalog. As more updates surface, fans of offbeat animated comedies will likely keep this one on their radar.
