TikTok Star Jake Shane Set to Lead and Executive Produce New Hulu Comedy Based on His Life
TikTok sensation Jake Shane is making the leap from viral videos to television with a brand-new Hulu comedy series inspired by his own life. The half-hour show, currently in development with 20th Television, will see Shane both starring as himself and executive producing, marking his biggest screen project yet.
Shane, best known for hosting his hit podcast Therapuss with Jake Shane, first made his acting debut in the latest season of Hacks, playing a social media manager. Now, he’s taking center stage in this upcoming series that aims to capture the wild and unpredictable nature of life in the digital spotlight.
The untitled series is being developed by a powerhouse team. Genevieve Aniello, known for her work as a writer on Hacks and consulting producer on High Potential, will serve as both writer and executive producer. She co-wrote the pilot alongside Shane himself and Paul Briganti, a Saturday Night Live alum who will also direct and executive produce the episode. Rounding out the team are Alec Berg and Amy Solomon, who are attached as executive producers under their overall deal with 20th Television.
According to the show’s official logline, the series follows Shane and his best friends as they “navigate the chaotic new world of online fame, the strain it puts on their friendships, and the tension their presence causes in their suburban neighborhood.” The plot closely mirrors Shane’s real life, blending humor and honesty about the challenges of internet stardom.
In real life, Jake Shane’s rise has been nothing short of meteoric. After gaining a massive following on TikTok, where he now has over 5 million followers across platforms, Shane turned his popularity into a thriving podcast career. He launched Therapuss with Jake Shane in January 2024, and it quickly became a chart-topper on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, often featuring high-profile guests such as Selena Gomez, Lorde, Kerry Washington, Charli XCX, Lea Michele, and Glen Powell. The season two finale, featuring guest Hilary Duff, is set to air this Thursday.
Not content with just podcasting, Shane has also taken his show on the road. His 2025 North American tour, titled LIVE with Jake Shane, spans 36 cities and even includes a sold-out performance at Radio City Music Hall. This follows his equally successful 2024 tour, which sold out across 21 cities. On top of that, he recently collaborated with record producer Alexander 23 to release a 13-track comedy music album, expanding his creative reach even further.
The TikToker’s growing influence extends beyond entertainment. Known for his friendships with celebrities like Sophia Richie Grainge, Tate McRae, and Glen Powell, Shane is often spotted at high-profile events and workouts at the Alo gym. His online charm and candid humor have helped him cultivate an engaged fanbase that now eagerly anticipates his next move—this time, on a major streaming platform.
Shane is represented by UTA and Homemade Projects. No release date has been announced yet, but with such an impressive creative lineup and a personal story that feels made for TV, Jake Shane’s upcoming Hulu comedy might just be one of the most anticipated streaming debuts of 2025.
