Jiaoying Summers’ First Comedy Special “What Specie Are You?” Premieres on Hulu November 8
Comedian and actress Jiaoying Summers is officially making her long-form comedy debut with her first hour-long special, “What Specie Are You?”, arriving November 8, 2025, exclusively on Hulu. The special will also stream through Hulu on Disney+, though international release plans haven’t yet been announced.
Produced by Comedy Dynamics, the special captures Summers’ trademark mix of bold humor and sharp cultural observation. Samuel Brownfield directed the hour, while Summers herself served as an executive producer, alongside Brian Volk-Weiss (CEO of Comedy Dynamics), Cisco Henson, and Carolyn Gitomer, her longtime manager.
“What Specie Are You?” digs into the question of what makes people different—and what connects us anyway. Drawing from her life as a Chinese American and first-generation immigrant, Summers covers a range of topics including cultural clashes, immigrant identity, and motherhood. Known for her fearless delivery and quick wit, she uses her personal experience to tackle the contrasts between Eastern and Western perspectives, while keeping the laughs coming nonstop.
The title itself—intentionally singular, not “species”—reflects Summers’ offbeat sense of humor. In her own words on social media, she teased the project by asking, “What kind of specie are you?” Her fans, numbering in the millions, quickly rallied behind the announcement.
The special’s premiere marks a major step in Summers’ fast-rising career. She’s perhaps best known for her viral “Uber Karen” sketch and her hilarious takes on English names, which she “translates” and roasts from a Chinese perspective.

Beyond performing, Summers is deeply involved in the comedy scene as the owner of The Hollywood Comedy and The Pasadena Comedy, two Los Angeles clubs she founded to spotlight diverse and underrepresented talent.
